Buying a boat with Norfolk Boat Sales

Buying a boat can be very difficult especially if it is your first. Norfolk Boat Sales have a team of qualified brokers who will give you the time & knowledge you need to help you make the right decision.

There are so many types of boats of all shapes & sizes & identifying what is right for you can be a difficult task. We recommend that you need to view as many boats as you can of all types and write a list of what you like & dislike. Slowly you will start to identify what types of boats will suit your needs. Never jump into the first boat you look at other wise you will probably be back in a couple of months to change.

Friends or current boat owners are always happy to give you advice which sadly is not always right & could put you off a boat that would actually suit you perfectly. When you find the boat you think is right employ an independent surveyor as his advice will be accurate.

Where do I get a mooring & how much?

We will always help you find a mooring that will suit your budget. Mooring prices vary considerably and cost depends on the quality of the moorings, what facilities they offer and obviously how long the boat is. We are lucky as we have our own marina so we can cater for many of our clients - our fees are currently ?68 per ft including VAT.

Can we part exchange our current boat?

All our boats have a part exchange facility & we will always do our best to get you the highest value.

We will also consider part exchange of cars and motor-homes.

How much will it cost me to run a boat per year?

Basing this on a thirty foot boat to use on the river you would be looking at running costs of around ?3,000 per year. This includes river tolls, insurance, moorings, fuel & general maintenance. This is only a guide & depends on what type of boat you choose to buy.

Do we get any warranty with the boat?

Brokerage boats are sold as seen and no warranty is given. We will always recommend to you that you should employ an independent surveyor to inspect the boat & engine for you before you buy. However, if you buy one of our many stock boats then we will offer you a warranty and on top of that all stock boats are serviced(If required), antifouled) if required), polished and checked before handover.

Do I buy petrol or diesel?

There is no right or wrong, it is what suits you. Yes, diesels are more economical but at 6mph a petrol boat would not be that expensive to run. Petrol is quieter & depending on what type of boat you will get better performance, but if you plan to do a lot of sea work then you would be better with a diesel.

Why buy from a broker?

Any professional broker will be a member of the YBDSA & BMF. These regulatory bodies will mean that the broker sticks to strict guidelines of operating a brokerage business including items that will protect both the purchaser & seller including: Providing clear title, proof of vat (If applicable), possessing a non interest gathering client account & helping/ guiding clients through registration.

How do I get insurance or get a mortgage?

Norfolk Boat Sales has a very good relationship with some of the most prestigious & reputable bank/ insurance companies in the industry & we will always guide you through the process & introduce you to the relevant companies.

These are a few of the common questions we get asked every day. If you have any particular question that you need some help or advice with please do not hesitate to contact us.
